Concrete, Forest, Leaves

This is a sound walking experience.

This project was inspired by my passion for walking. Walking with different people in different places makes me think differently. In my countless experiences of walking, I realised a fact that walking allows people to think deeply. When walking alone, I think about things that hide in the deepest corner of my head. The noise and footsteps in the environment are like a conversation I have with myself.

Just as said in an ancient saying in China:

"Ten thousand scrolls of book are no better than ten thousand miles of journey". Walking allows for spontaneous thinking rather than passive infusions of thoughts.

This project aims to provide an opportunity for people to think while they walk. As the sound notes unfold as a scroll, and as people walk along the scroll with headphones on to hear the noise of the footsteps and the inspirational environment, people are immersed in the journey of talking to themselves. A soundscape is created.

By using different coloured ropes to connect the sound notes, I wanted to highlight the visual features of different environments.

Walking is not purely a way of travelling, but a way of thinking. "It is not a way to arrive, but a way to be somewhere". "Wanderlust: A History of Walking." - — Rebecca Solnit.

I believe the "somewhere" here is our mind.
